ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament
ABN AMRO has been involved with the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam Ahoy since 1974. That means that the 2018 edition of this event will mark our 45th year as a sponsor, making it the longest-running sponsorship of the ATP Tour. Richard Krajicek first joined the tournament in the 80’s as a ball kid and later played in the top ten of the world for years. It is also the dream of all the passionate ball boys and -girls who will be on the tournament this year. Richard’s greatest victory was Wimbledon in 1996. He has won the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament twice: in 1995 and 1997. With his appointment as tournament director in 2004, he helped to further grow the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament internationally.
ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament
This year, the tenth edition of the ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament will take place as well. The top international wheelchair tennis players will be present in Rotterdam to showcase wheelchair tennis at the highest level. With Olympic gold medalist Esther Vergeer as tournament director, the world's 12 best singles and doubles players will battle for the title.
ABN AMRO and Talent
At ABN AMRO, we believe that the world is at its best when people get the chance to control their own life, development and growth. That’s why we give people and institutions who want to achieve something a helping hand in discovering their talent and realizing their ambitions. We want to stimulate people to make the best of it. Talent development is a recurring theme in our sponsor activities.
In the area of sports, ABN AMRO is active in tennis, hockey and sports for the disabled. We are also active as a sponsor of the youth of Ajax. In the area of art and culture, we are among other things the main sponsor of the annual Uitmarkt, the Dutch Design Week and museum the Hermitage.
Richard Krajicek Foundation & Fonds Gehandicaptensport
In addition to stimulating top talent, ABN AMRO wants to provide broader support to (tennis) sports in the Netherlands. That’s why we have been involved with the Krajicek Foundation for years: a foundation which works to encourage underprivileged children to exercise and take up sports. We are also partners of Fonds Gehandicaptensport, which works to make sports structurally available for everyone with a physical disability. Crucial initiatives, we believe, because sports should be available for everyone.
