Danill Medvedev, the number 5 player in the world, will participate in the 48th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in February. The 24-year-old Russian, last year’s finalist at the US Open, plays in Rotterdam Ahoy for the fourth time. The tournament takes place from 6 to 14 February 2021.
Tournament director Richard Krajicek: "Now that international tennis has started again, the moment has come for us to announce the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. We are very pleased that Daniil Medvedev, with whom we made arrangements earlier for 2021, has confirmed his intention to be present in Rotterdam. It shows that the players, as well as the fans, are excited for tournaments.”
Medvedev in Rotterdam
Daniil Medvedev can be seen playing for the fourth time in Rotterdam. He debuted in 2018 as a qualifier, being number 57 of the world. He beat Gilles Müller and Pierre-Hugues Herbert, but was defeated in the quarterfinal by Andreas Seppi after three sets. He returned to Rotterdam in 2019 as number 16 in the ATP Ranking. He reached the semi-final, by consecutively beating Jeremy Chardy, Fernando Verdasco and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In the semi-final he lost in a beautiful match over three sets to Gael Monfils, who would go on to become the tournament winner. Earlier this year, as number 4 of the world, he lost against Vasek Pospisil in the first round.
ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament
The 48th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament takes place from 6 to 14 February 2021. Richard Krajicek: "We have started preparing for the tournament. We are working from a plan where we can welcome fans in a safe and responsible way. Because the current guidelines allow less fans than usual, it has our special attention to make sure the tournament has a good atmosphere. We are looking forward to set up a great edition in February.”
