Gaël Monfils notched his seventh consecutive win at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. The French reigning champion defeated countryman Gilles Simon 6-4 6-1 to move on to the quarter finals.
"I was happy the match didn’t take too long. I’m sick and a little tired. Luckily I could move well and I gave everything. Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow,” the world No.9 confessed after his victory.
A year ago Monfils (33) won the title, beating his good friend Stan Wawrinka in the final. "I’m happy and proud that my name is up on that boarding, together with the name of Arthur Ashe, my idol that I never got to meet. There are three tournaments both Ashe and I won.”
Friday night Monfils meets the in-form Daniel Evans to fight for a semi final berth.
