Richard Krajicek: 'Historical moment in jubilee edition with visitors record’18 february 2018
The 45th edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament has also become a very special tournament for tournament director Richard Krajicek with Roger Federer as tournament winner and a record number of spectators of 122,846. "We have experienced an historic edition as an organization," said Richard Krajicek, who was able to accompany King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima as guests during the final.
"The whole experience was great during the tournament week, it is important that the tournament was so lively. The ticket sales went well, but after the announcement of the arrival of Roger Federer it went crazy. I am glad that the spectators believe in the tournament and again achieved a record number. This was one of my best years as a tournament director.’’
Richard Krajicek won the title twice in Rotterdam, just like Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Connors, Stefan Edberg, Nicolas Escudé, Robin Söderling and Roger Federer. But with his tournament victory, the 36 year old Swiss has the record. Krajicek: "Roger, I forgive you that we do not have the record together anymore. I am very satisfied with the tournament that it all happened this way. The approach for next year is again a broad field with a number of top players.
