Alexander Zverev started the 45th edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament with a victory. The number four on the world ranking defeated the Spanish fighter David Ferrer with 6-4, 6-3.
Alexander Zverev is in Rotterdam Ahoy for the fourth time after tournament director Richard Krajicek gave him a wildcard for the first time in 2015. '’I like it very much in Rotterdam and I start to feel more at home here. I hope to come to Rotterdam often in the future.’’
The 20 year old German reached the second round without too many problems. '’You do not often see a top 10 player in the first round against David Ferrer. That is proof that the field of participants in Rotterdam is always very strong.’’ Attentive spectator along the centre court was Boris Becker, who won the tournament in Rotterdam in 1992. Zverev: '’He is the head of German tennis and visits a number of tournaments every now and then. I hope he likes his new job.’’
Zverev will play in the second round against Italian lucky loser Andreas Seppi, who defeated the Portuguese Joao Sousa in the opening round (6-4, 1-6, 6-2).
